Born and brought up on a small fifth generation farm in Essex, Archie Browning (b.1990) has been encouraged and taught by his mother and sculptor Lucy Lutyens.
His work is intuitive and has been described as ‘tribal and prehistoric’ and influenced not only from the rich history of the land he was raised on but also his time spent learning his craft abroad. His work began with large scale abstract paintings but has more recently focused on stone carving, having been taught from traditional artisans in both India, Italy, Mexico and the UK.
He describes his creative process “as an inner peace and meditative space where intuitively my hands and soul take over and my mind is quietened. The sculpture is purely an extension of my drawings into 3D“
